Sandra Mayoh was the one of Bryan Mayoh’s rather too numerous (for his pocket) wives that played a significant part in establishing Eskdale Thoroughbreds, not least by taking a real liking to La Perrotine when the pair saw her at Doncaster Sales as a 3yo and Howard Johnson’s stables later on. Her then husband simply wasn’t a good enough judge of a horse at the time to see just what an impressive physical specimen ‘Perry’ was.

Arguments remain about who chose Midnight Legend to be the sire of her 2010 foal, but we can exclusively reveal that in early 2009 an opinion piece in Thoroughbred Owner Breeder pointed out that, on the basis of statistical analyses of their produce, Kayf Tara and Midnight Legend were as good as any stallions in Ireland. Whoever wrote this article signed his or her name as ‘Bryan Mayoh’.

The following year, 2010, was the year of Eskdale’s ‘miracle crop’ of three Black-Type winners, two by Midnight Legend and one by Kayf Tara; but mating decisions at the time invariably resulted from considerable discussion, debate and dialogue, so it is reasonable to assume that both of the then principals must have agreed these particular matings, aided only by a fourth ‘d’ – divine providence.  So, when this website uses the term ‘we’, up to 2012 it refers to Bryan Mayoh and Sandra Mayoh; after that it is Bryan Mayoh and Dorte ‘Good Girl’ Mayoh.
