Dorte Mayoh has been involved with Eskdale Thoroughbreds since 2012; and, although not party to breeding Sizing John, her psychic powers undoubtedly helped him achieve the successes he did. She was certainly the only one of two Eskdale representatives standing in the Cheltenham paddock on March 17th 2017 who actually thought Sizing John would win the Cheltenham Gold Cup – the other was far more realistic and believed dreams like that don’t come true.
Dorte likes to think about the personalities of our horses – mares and filly foals in particular. She enjoys encouraging young fillies to canter around our arena, trot over poles and perhaps even jump over low fences. The schooling stops when they decide it might be fun to leap out of the arena, but all of this helps prepare their minds for the next stage of their education – being broken and learning to jump.
