Horses for Sale

A foal that might once have appeared in these pages…
… photographed 12 years later in honorable retirement

We normally sell our produce as foals (at the Tattersalls November or Goffs December Sales in Ireland) or as early yearlings at Goffs UK in January. Any that have suffered setbacks and so are unable to be sold at these times are likely to be offered either as yearlings at the Tattersalls November Sale or at 3YO store sales (Goffs May, Goffs Arkle or Tattersalls Derby Sales).

Our preference to sell as foals is because we define ourselves principally as breeders of good racehorses rather than ‘pinhookers’ with the ability to spot which foals will develop into particularly appealing 3YOs, We did this with SIZING JOHN (16,000 euros) , LIFEBOAT MONA (600 euros) and KORNATI KID (7,000 guineas). The only youngsters we aim to keep long-term are fillies with outstanding pedigrees that are potentially good enough to bolster our broodmare band – which applied to ANYTHINGFORLOVE. Of our other Black-Type horses, Scholastica was sold at Doncaster as a 3YO; MIDNIGHT TARGET and Naranja were sold privately as 2YOs.

We try to have a realistic idea of the value of our stock (although we are frequently wrong in both directions!); and selling privately saves preparation and selling costs that can be passed on to the purchaser. Accordingly, those seriously interested in a private transaction are welcome to view the animals and discuss this possibility. This is best done in August or September, when Shade Oak Stud (where our foals are born and initially raised) is far less busy with stallion activities, before our earlier foals are sent to Ireland for sales preparation.

This page will tell you what stock we have available at any point in time and something of their pedigrees. If you wish to view them, call or text me on 07740 306112 or write to bryanmayoh@btinternet.com – BM.
